How We First Started Saving

This started out with me trying to think of a way to convince a family member to start saving more (anything at all) without being too invasive. Thankfully my better half smacked me straight before I embarked on that plan. Something about how nobody likes being told how they should save money by someone who is not in the same financial situation as them.

The action of saving money seems so simple now. Was it ever difficult? What have we done so differently? Not much, as it turns out.

I have to take a ride in the wayback machine to go to the beginning of our longest most successful method of saving. Splitting your payroll deposit and sending some over to savings.

So simple and yet so effective. We started doing this almost twenty years ago and have kept it up since. Technically this is called paying yourself first, but we didn’t know that then.

There you have it. The one thing we got right almost from the start. So, if you came here looking for one savings tip. It is now yours. You are welcome. 🙂
